Projects don't happen overnight. Just like buildings needing years to attain their patina of age and character, although they can change overnight, more typically they take years like sine waves to decline and then to rise again. Sudden change is usually in the form of a catastrophe, like a fire or flood, whereas neglect and ivy creep along slowly. Even comprehensive projects that simply upgrade or fully restore a building occur through years of planning, fundraising, and ultimately implementation. Reading the building to let it tell you what it needs, takes a trained eye and patience. Hence, patience in preservation.
