This network is operated by the
Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) with the support of a grant from
the Getty Foundation. SCUP's project team is reviewing, analyzing, and sharing findings from reports and other data from reports to the Getty Foundation from campus-based teams which implemented projects funded by
the Getty Campus Heritage Program with grants in
2002,
2003,
2004,
2005,
2006, and
2007.
In 2007, with seed money from the Getty Foundation, SCUP conducted interviews with a wide range of planners concerned with campus heritage preservation, including planners and architects. The interview team looked at preservation related issues of interest to the campus planning community and queried planners regarding how they would wish to receive knowledge gained from a review of the findings of the Campus Heritage Program grant recipients and other relevant projects.
Following that initial research, in late 2008 the Getty Foundation award SCUP a grant for this current project to capture and share findings from reports out of the Getty's Campus Heritage Project, as follows:
- Identify and share with campus planners the lessons learned from the teams of planners on campuses which received and implemented Getty Campus Heritage Program grants;
- Identify/fill information gaps in areas in which campus planners have indicated need;
- Engage the campus planning community and others interested in heritage preservation, in dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration to strengthen campus heritage preservation planning efforts;
- Congruent with SCUP's strong interest in integrated planning, identify and/or model linkages of campus heritage projects to institutional policies, operations, strategic plans, campus master plans, resource allocation decision making processes, sustainability or climate change initiatives, and learning/student life activities; and
- Develop working relationships/partnerships with other organizations whose members have knowledge of, and/or interest in, heritage preservation planning methodologies, vocabulary, tools, and techniques.
This website is the SCUP project's initial platform for sharing knowledge and for building a community of all those interested in related issues.
